The chemical milling process equipment at RTI Tradco was entering the final stages of its useful service life. RTI’s continued mandate to produce state of the art titanium products required a higher productivity, environmental stewardship and operator safety than possible using the existing chemical milling line.
The Scanacon solutions to the problem was to provide the customer with a new state of the art chemical milling line, drawing from Scanacon’s extensive portfolio of specialized products and services.
The new line resulted in improved process control, uptime, productivity, quality and environmental standing and, just as importantly, higher process safety and reduced employee exposure to hazardous chemicals. A 20 percent reduction of HF and 50 percent of HNO3 consumption, along with waste reductions of more than 25 percent, productivity increases of more than 20 percent due to minimized line downtime and improved process control.
As a result of the successful 2011 project, a new project was realized and was commissioned in December 2012 for RTI Tradco’s Titanium flat rolled (sheet) pickling process.
